NancyMICKELAgnes Mary (Nancy) Mickel. It is with sadness that her family reports the death of their Aunt/Great-Aunt/Great-Great-Aunt Nancy on 21st July 2025 at home at the age of 102. It had always been her wish to die in her own house in Dechmont. Despite her impaired mobility and health problems, this was made possible thanks to the staff of St John's Hospital Livingston, the doctors, receptionists and District Nurses from Linden Medical Practice, "Home Instead" staff and the pharmacists and Community Nurses from Broxburn. Every one of them cared for Nancy to the highest degree and allowed her wish to become a reality. Her two nieces, together with their husbands, best friend Kay and another friend Liz were the links to her old life right up to the end. Until the last few days, when she was always sleeping, her mind was as sharp as a tack having been honed daily on politics, crosswords and newspaper puzzles. She was annoyed that physically her body couldn't keep up with her mental side. After her World War II service in the Royal Navy, Nancy was hospitalised with TB but recovered and led a productive life in local government - especially in her beloved Whitburn. She always said that regionalisation was not as effective as were the local burgh councils and would argue that point vociferously. Nancy never married but had a sister and four brothers, one of the latter being her twin. She had five nephews and two nieces together with several great nephews and great nieces and their children. They are now spread across the globe in Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Spain, England and Scotland. She had a special affinity with her sister, Grace, and her twin, Jim, together with their families and, before it became difficult for her, enjoyed travelling to such distant and exotic places as Calgary (multiple times for the stampede and rodeo), Banff, Montreal, Sydney and Greater Manchester. She is sorely missed by all who knew her - family, friends, neighbours, her window cleaner and her gardener, to mention but a few. The list is a long one.
